Help Out Haitian Earthquake Victims

The news from Haiti is terrible. I studied the country and wrote several papers on it as an undergraduate, back in the day when it was my life’s ambition to be a foreign correspondent. I can tell you, their history is no less tragic than the current earthquake. Try to pitch in some cash, beginning with the International Red Cross.

  1. Yes, I donated a bit to the Red Cross not long after I heard about the quake. Also it’s great if one can give ten bucks or so a month on a regular basis — Doctors without Borders has a “field partner” plan of that sort. They do excellent and courageous work in some of the most difficult places in the world to be, so I was glad to sign on with them a year or so back.

The images of Port-au-Prince show nothing short of utter devastation. The only tolerable news is that charitable giving is occurring at record levels, what with this new “texting ten bucks” trend. Pres. Obama also seems to be very prompt and active in extending help.
